We are looking this week at different ways businesses market their products and services especially nontraditional methods. One thing that marketers pay close attention to is online reviews of their products. A business might include customer reviews on their website or carefully monitor the reviews on third-party sites. I would like you to discuss your own experiences with online reviews. Do you find them useful when deciding whether or not to buy a product or service? Why or why not?
Claire
I think online reviews are a great source of information because they are written by ordinary customers who are like me. For instance, when I read a restaurant review by a professional food critic, I'm not interested in some of the details that are included, like how the food is prepared. I'm more interested in aspects like the quality of the food and the service, which regular customers usually comment on.
Andrew
To me, online reviews have some real problems. First, people are more likely to post reviews after a bad experience than after a good one. As a result, what you read is often weighted toward the negative. Also, you have no way of knowing whether reviewers know what they are talking about or even if they actually bought and used the product they are reviewing.

To me, online reviews are of great essence when it comes to making purchasing decisions. Firstly, it helps the buyers pinpoint the trusty and worthy information. In details, by crosschecking the users' feedback can we determine message's source and verify its accuracy. For example, there are countless commercial channels, spam emails that boost the selling points and cost performance, like the new generation of the optical technology and photographic algorithms in the IPhones. However, it is disappointing yet true that only the users' words count: the decent photographic parameters and high spatial resolution are just results of ideal experiments, which is claimed in advertisement. What's more, through viewing comments, we can resist impulse purchases or maintain the discipline required for regular savings. To elaborate, my friend was crazy about a fashion recording pen, but hesitated and calmed down when browsing the flaws exposed in the comment section, ranging from fuzzy recording quality to poor battery life. This is a micro-example of one person, but it speaks volumes to Chinese consumers’ purchasing thought process and behavior, and recent data support this as well. According to a survey conducted by Accenture, up to 70% of China’s Gen Z consumers are more inclined to think critically and look into products when viewing the comments.

例如,“In details, by crosschecking the users' feedback can we determine message's source and verify its accuracy.” 可以改为 “In detail, by cross-checking users' feedback, we can determine the source of the message and verify its accuracy.”

Section Title: 6 文章修订
In my opinion, online reviews play a crucial role in making informed purchasing decisions. First and foremost, they enable buyers to identify reliable and valuable information by cross-referencing user feedback, which helps determine the credibility of the source and verify its accuracy. For instance, numerous commercial channels and spam emails may exaggerate product features or performance, such as the latest optical technology and photographic algorithms in iPhones. However, it is ultimately the users' experiences that provide a more accurate representation of these features' real-world performance.
Moreover, examining comments can help curb impulse purchases and promote disciplined spending habits. To illustrate this point, I recall a friend who was initially enamored with a fashionable recording pen but reconsidered after discovering its flaws—such as poor audio quality and battery life—through customer reviews. While this example may seem trivial, it reflects the thought process and behavior of many consumers when making purchasing decisions. In fact, a recent survey conducted by Accenture revealed that up to 70% of China's Gen Z consumers are more likely to critically evaluate products based on online reviews before committing to a purchase.
By offering valuable insights from fellow customers who have firsthand experience with products or services, online reviews serve as an indispensable tool for making well-informed decisions in today's digital marketplace. (218 words)
