Since the common carp was introduced to Australian waters about two centuries ago, it has become an invasive species in many Australian waterways, where it competes with native fish and harms local ecosystems. Scientists are currently investigating several methods for reducing carp numbers in order to improve ecosystems in Australia. First, it is possible to reduce carp populations through commercial fishing. In the United States, for instance, the Asian carp has been a harmful invasive species for many years, but its numbers have been reduced in several areas by increased commercial fishing. This occurred because government programs encouraged commercial fisheries to catch and sell more carp and because carp was promoted as a fish that is especially good to eat. Commercial carp fishing could similarly be encouraged in Australia to reduce carp populations. Another option is to poison the carp. Bait food injected with a powerful toxin can be thrown into lakes and ponds; carp that eat these baits will die. To keep native fish species from being killed by these poisoned baits, they can be made attractive only to carp. Unlike many fish, carp can eat plants and are attracted to certain kinds of plant material, like corn. So, if the poisoned baits are made of corn or resemble corn, they will only get eaten by the carp, and only the carp will get killed by the poison. A final option involves genetic engineering. In the laboratory, scientists have found a way to modify or change individual carps’ genes so that they only produce male offspring without producing any females. Scientists hope to introduce such genetically modified carp into the infested waterways, where they will breed with the carp that are already present. As these modified carp spread their genes throughout the carp population, carp offspring will increasingly be male, reducing the number of carp eggs that get produced.

The reading passage presents three potential methods for reducing carp populations in Australian waters, while the lecture offers counterarguments to these points. Firstly, the reading passage suggests that commercial fishing could be a viable solution to decrease carp populations. However, the lecturer refutes this claim by stating that common carp in Australia are not typically consumed by humans due to their unpalatable taste. Instead, they are primarily used as a protein source for farm animals. The demand for carp as animal feed has already been met in Australia, making it unlikely that commercial fishing would significantly reduce carp numbers. In addition, the lecturer disputes the reading passage's claim that using poisoned bait could effectively target and eliminate carp populations. The professor argues that carps possess an acute sense of smell, enabling them to detect toxins and avoid consuming poisoned bait. Consequently, the poisoned bait may remain in the waterways and eventually leak toxins into the water, potentially harming native fish species rather than reducing carp numbers. Lastly, the lecturer challenges the reading passage's assertion that genetic engineering could be employed to decrease female carp populations. The professor highlights that healthy pet carps can continue laying eggs and maintain high population levels. For instance, many Australians keep colorful varieties of pet carps in backyard ponds which may escape into nearby waterways during floods or heavy rains. Once released into the wild, these pet carps breed with invasive carps and introduce healthy genes back into the population, ensuring female offspring continue to be produced and lay numerous eggs.

For instance, many Australians keep colorful varieties of pet carps in backyard pondsponds,(This rule identifies whether commas are missing in a sentence.) which may escape into nearby waterways during floods or heavy rains. Once released into the wild, these pet carps breed with invasive carps and introduce healthy genes back into the population, ensuring female offspring continue to be produced and lay numerous eggs.
6.文章修订
The reading passage delineates three potential strategies for mitigating carp populations in Australian waters, whereas the lecture presents counterarguments to these propositions.
Initially, the reading passage posits that commercial fishing could serve as an effective solution to diminish carp populations. Contrarily, the lecturer contends that common carp in Australia are not typically consumed by humans due to their unpalatable taste. Consequently, they are primarily utilized as a protein source for farm animals. The demand for carp as animal feed has already been satisfied in Australia, rendering it improbable that commercial fishing would substantially reduce carp numbers.
Moreover, the lecturer disputes the reading passage's assertion that deploying poisoned bait could efficiently target and eradicate carp populations. The professor argues that carps possess an acute olfactory sense, enabling them to detect toxins and circumvent consuming poisoned bait. As a result, the poisoned bait may persist in waterways and eventually release toxins into the water, potentially jeopardizing native fish species rather than curtailing carp numbers.
Lastly, the lecturer challenges the reading passage's claim that genetic engineering could be employed to decrease female carp populations. The professor underscores that healthy pet carps can continue laying eggs and maintaining high population levels. For instance, numerous Australians keep vibrant varieties of pet carps in backyard ponds which may escape into proximate waterways during floods or heavy rains. Once released into the wild, these pet carps interbreed with invasive carps and reintroduce healthy genes into the population, ensuring female offspring persist in being produced and lay copious eggs. The reading passage presents three plausible methods for decreasing the number of carp in Australian waters, while the lecture offers counterarguments to these points.
Firstly, the author contends that commercial fishing can be employed to reduce carp populations. However, the lecturer refutes this claim by highlighting that unlike in the United States, common carp in Australia are not considered palatable for human consumption. Although rich in protein, their taste renders them suitable only as a food source for farm animals. The demand for carp as a source of protein for farm animals is already being met in Australia, and it is unlikely to increase significantly anytime soon.
Secondly, the reading passage suggests using poisoned bait as a means to eliminate carp. Nevertheless, the lecturer argues that this approach may not be effective due to carps' highly developed sense of smell. Carp can detect toxins and often refuse to consume poisoned bait. Consequently, these toxic baits remain in waterways and may eventually leak their toxins into the water, inadvertently harming native fish species instead of significantly reducing carp numbers.
Lastly, the reading passage proposes employing genetic engineering techniques to decrease female carp populations by introducing genetically modified male-only offspring-producing carp into infested waterways. The lecturer counters this argument by explaining that healthy carp will still manage to infiltrate lakes and streams due to their popularity as pets among Australians who keep them in backyard ponds. Unfortunately, flooding from heavy rains sometimes allows these pet carp to escape from backyard ponds into nearby waterways where they breed with invasive carp and introduce healthy genes back into the population. As a result, female carp continue being produced and maintain high population levels by laying numerous eggs. (284 words)

Despite each proposed method's potential benefits in addressing Australia's invasive carp issue, the lecture effectively counters these suggestions with compelling evidence illustrating their limitations and potential drawbacks. (284 words)

The reading passage presents three plausible ways to decrease the number of carp potential methods for reducing carp populations in Australian waters, while waters, while the lecture offter offers counterarguments to these points. ¶ To begin with, although the author contends that the (This sentence was revised to make it more concise and clear.)
Firstly, the reading passage suggests that commercial fishing could be a viable solution to decrease of carp quantity can be feasible carp populations. However, the lecturer refutes this claim by commercial fishing.Nevertheless, the lecturer provides facts to refute this claim.Specifically, even though the carp is full of protein, its taste is so terrible that they can only be stating that common carp in Australia are not typically consumed by some humans due to their unpalatable taste. (The word "unpalatable" was used instead of "terrible" to provide a more formal and precise description.) Instead, they are primarily used as a protein source for farm animals.Unfortunately, the number of carps that provided animals. The demand for the farms carp as animal feed has already been met its limit. As a result, this seemingly doable way has not a leg to stand on. ¶ Moreover, the lectures challenges the author's following suggestion that in Australia, making it unlikely that commercial fishing would significantly reduce carp numbers.
In addition, the lecturer disputes the reading passage's claim that using poisoned bait food with toxious function can be adapted to poison the carps. The could effectively target and eliminate carp populations. The professor argues that carps are born with a good possess an acute sense of smell, they can distinguish from the noxious baits by detecting the substances. On the contrary, these poisonous food will smell (the phrase "acute sense of smell" is more accurate and formal than "good sense of smell"), enabling them to detect toxins and avoid consuming poisoned bait. Consequently, the poisoned bait may remain in the water ways, causing the indigeous fish to eat these remians coincidentally.Consequently, instead of killing the carps, this solution will kill those waterways and eventually leak toxins into the water, potentially harming native fish first. ¶ Lastly, the species rather than reducing carp numbers.

In the reading material, the author cites three reasons why the Phoenicians are not the first to sail around Africa.Nevertheless, the lecturer in the listening material argues that there are many convincing facts can prove this, and opposes the points in the reading material. First and foremost, the author argues that the technology that the Phoenicians used, such as a small ship is impossible for Phoenicians to sail around Africa. However, the lecturer offers an opposite stand by offering the scientific outcome, which illustrates that the scientists have saved one copy of the ship once the Phoenicians used and they are astonished to find that this ship is strong and stable enough to sail around Africa. In addition, the lecturer casts doubt on the author's second reason that the Egyptian ruler has no affection for exploring the world in the vicinity of their kingdom, demonstrating that the Necho II indeed doesn't favor the exploration, but he is interested in water transportation. This not only stimulates him to connect the sea with the canyon, but also gives him an opportinuity to develop new trading and make more trading partners. Finally, the author's third reason that the story of Phoenicians can be made up presumably as the stories happened during marinetime are often unbelieveable is also counteracted by the lecturer who points out that the sun can be the witness for the Phoenicians. It is indisputable that the voyage is directly head the south and the sun is in the position of partly north, not south at mid day.If the Phoenicians made up the story, they can't tell the exact position of the sun and let alone the observation.

The reading passage presents three arguments against the idea that the Phoenicians were the first to sail around Africa, while the lecture offers counterarguments to these points. To begin with, although the author contends that the Phoenicians' simple sailing technology, such as small ships held together with crude wooden pegs, would have been insufficient for a long voyage around Africa, the lecturer provides evidence to refute this claim. Specifically, scientists in the 20th century successfully replicated a Phoenician ship using identical materials and techniques available 600 years BCE and managed to sail it around Africa. This experiment demonstrates that Phoenician ships were indeed capable of such a journey.
Moreover, the lecturer challenges the author's second argument that Egyptian rulers were not interested in exploring areas outside their kingdom by presenting Necho II as an exception. Contrary to other Egyptian rulers, Necho II was particularly interested in water transportation and initiated major projects connecting Egyptian rivers and seas through canals. The lecturer suggests that Necho II could have hired Phoenician sailors to sail around Africa in search of new trading partners and routes.
Lastly, the lecturer refutes the author's third claim that stories from maritime expeditions are often fabricated by providing evidence supporting the authenticity of the Phoenicians' journey. The sailors reported observing a unique phenomenon: at midday in far southern latitudes, they saw the sun positioned in the northern part of the sky instead of its usual southern position. This observation accurately reflects what occurs in the southern hemisphere and would have been difficult for them to invent without firsthand experience. Therefore, it is more likely that they had indeed sailed to these regions and observed this phenomenon themselves.

The reading passage presents three potential methods for reducing the carp population in Australian waters, while the lecture offers counterarguments to these points.
Firstly, the reading passage suggests that commercial fishing could be an effective way to decrease carp numbers. However, the lecture provides a contrasting perspective. It highlights that unlike in the United States, common carp in Australia are not typically consumed by humans due to their unpalatable taste. Although rich in protein, they are primarily used as feed for farm animals. The demand for carp as animal feed has already been met in Australia, making it unlikely that commercial fishing will significantly reduce carp populations.
Secondly, the reading passage proposes using poisoned bait made from corn or similar plant material to target and kill carp without harming native fish species. Nevertheless, the lecture disputes this approach by emphasizing that carp possess an exceptional sense of smell and can detect toxins in bait. Consequently, they often avoid consuming poisoned bait. In contrast, these toxic baits may remain in waterways and eventually harm indigenous fish species as toxins leak into the water.
Lastly, the reading passage introduces genetic engineering as a possible solution by modifying carp genes to produce only male offspring. This would theoretically reduce egg production and thus decrease overall carp numbers. However, the lecture challenges this notion by pointing out that healthy pet carp kept in backyard ponds can inadvertently introduce healthy genes back into wild populations during floods or heavy rains. As a result, female offspring continue to be produced and maintain high levels of egg-laying activity, exacerbating ecological issues rather than alleviating them.
The revised essay demonstrates improved cohesion and coherence through smoother transitions between ideas and more natural flow of statements while maintaining proper grammar and advanced vocabulary suitable for a formal context. (300 words)
