Geologic Weathering The surface of the Earth is constantly changing due to geologic weathering, a process in which rock is dissolved, worn away, or broken down slowly over a long period of time, often thousands of years. This breakdown of rock at the Earth's surface can be caused by rainwater or extreme temperatures. Water that comes into contact with rock alters the composition of the rock material, gradually wearing away the surface of the rock or causing the disintegration of the rock. Additionally, extreme changes in temperature can cause rock to expand and contract, eventually causing rocks to crack and break apart. Even human-made objects of stone are susceptible to the same weathering processes. Explain the concept of geologic weathering and how the example involving Cleopatra’s Needle from the professor’s lecture illustrates it.

1.子项得分 Delivery: 3 Language Use: 3 Topic Development: 3
Original Answer: Geological weathering refers to a process in which rock dissolved, and often over a long period, caused by extreme climate change. In the lecture, the professor uses the example of Egyptian monuments as an example to illustrate the concept of geological weathering. Like before, 1,000 years ago, the weather in Egypt is hot and dry in the desert, and then they moved to New York. And what's interesting, the monuments' exposure to the rain, they wear away very quickly and fast. What's more, because of the cold weather, the stone cracks over 100 years ago, and then over 1,000 years later.
Corrected Answer: Geological weathering refers to a process in which rock dissolved rocks dissolve(将原文的"rock dissolved"改为"rocks dissolve",使动词与主语一致。), often over a long period, caused by extreme climate change. In the lecture, the professor uses the example of Egyptian monuments as an example Egyptian monuments(删除重复的"the example of",使句子更简洁。) to illustrate the concept of geological weathering. Like before, For instance,(将原文的"Like before,"改为"For instance,",使句子更连贯。) 1,000 years ago, the weather in Egypt was hot and dry in the desert, and then they moved to New York. When they were moved to New York,(将原文的"and then they moved to New York"改为"When they were moved to New York,",使句子更连贯。) the monuments' exposure to the rain caused them to wear away very quickly and fast erode rapidly(将原文的"wear away very quickly and fast"改为"erode rapidly",使用更高级的词汇。). What's more, because of the cold weather, the stone cracks over 100 years ago, and then over 1,000 years later developed cracks within 100 years(将原文的"cracks over 100 years ago, and then over 1,000 years later"改为"developed cracks within 100 years",使句子更清晰。).
Revised Answer (140 words): Geological weathering refers to a process in which rocks dissolve, often over a long period, due to extreme climate change. In the lecture, the professor uses Egyptian monuments to illustrate the concept of geological weathering. For instance, 1,000 years ago, the weather in Egypt was hot and dry in the desert. When these monuments were moved to New York, their exposure to rain caused them to erode rapidly. Furthermore, due to the cold weather in New York, the stone developed cracks within just 100 years. This example demonstrates how different environmental conditions can significantly impact the rate of geological weathering. By understanding this process, we can better appreciate the importance of preserving historical artifacts in their original environments or providing suitable protection when relocating them to prevent further damage from geological weathering.
