Your professor is teaching a class on consumer behavior. Write a post responding to the professor's question. In your response, you should do the following. - Express and support your opinion. - Make a contribution to the discussion in your own words. An effective response will contain at least 100 words. Doctor Achebe: We've been discussing the idea that human well-being is not necessarily improved by ever-increasing production and consumption of goods and services. Some people argue that humans already consume too many goods, from clothing to electronics to food; they believe that excessive consumption has created serious problems for humanity and even the planet. Do you agree that excessive consumption--buying more than we truly need--has become a serious problem? Why or why not? Andrew: I absolutely agree. We buy far more than we need, and that can't continue indefinitely. For years people have used shopping as a form of recreation. The products bought on a whim are filling up landfills, and the energy expended producing the goods has created a global warming crisis. We should start gradually reducing consumption. Claire: I disagree with the idea that over-consumption is a dramatic problem. I agree there is some over-consumption, but it happens mostly with wealthy people. I think in general almost everyone else already buys only what they need. In fact, many people around the world are not even able to obtain everything they need.

I agree with Andrew’s viewpoint that people buy too much when shopping. When people go shopping, they buy a lot. This is because they do not have an exact thing that they need to buy. It totally depends on their mood as to what to buy or not to buy. For instance, when I go shopping with my friends, it is really hard to stop when we find yourself going into one shop after another. I have two full boxes of stationery; however, I still like to change pencil cases and pens every few months. All the pens that I don’t use will either be thrown away or stored in my room until the ink drys up. This is a problem since it is very wasteful to throw all the plastic away. I buy way too much stationary that I do not need for school. In conclusion, when people don’t have a clear plan of what to buy, they will most likely buy more than they truly need, and these things will be wasted.

Revised Essay:
I concur with Andrew's perspective that excessive consumption has become a significant issue in today's society. Often, individuals engage in shopping without a specific purpose or necessity, resulting in the acquisition of numerous items based on their whims and desires. For example, when I accompany my friends on shopping trips, we find it challenging to resist the temptation of entering multiple stores and purchasing various products.
In my personal experience, I have accumulated an extensive collection of stationery items despite not requiring them for academic purposes. My penchant for acquiring new pencil cases and pens every few months leads to the disposal or storage of unused items until they are no longer functional. This behavior not only contributes to environmental waste due to the disposal of plastic materials but also exemplifies the issue of excessive consumption.
Moreover, it is essential to acknowledge Claire's argument that over-consumption primarily affects affluent individuals while many people worldwide struggle to obtain basic necessities. However, this disparity does not negate the fact that excessive consumption remains a pressing concern for both humanity and the environment.
To address this issue, individuals should adopt more mindful shopping habits by creating clear plans outlining their needs before engaging in retail therapy. By doing so, we can reduce wasteful spending and promote sustainable consumer behavior for the betterment of our planet and future generations. (230 words)
