Today, let's talk about an eternal topic: parent-child relationship. Traditionally, and now still the case in many regions of the world, parents emphasize discipline and even authority when interacting with their children. More and more parents, however, consider their children equal to themselves and make friends with them. Which type of relationship is more conducive to a healthy development of children?
Student A
Parents should of course make friends with their kids. That way, children can enjoy a casual atmosphere at home. At school, children are normally stressed out by their school work. When they come home, they deserve a cozy environment instead of "behaving themselves" all the time. Also, if parents treat children as friends, children are more likely to share their thoughts and struggles with their parents, so their parents can provide timely and effective suggestions and help when necessary.
Student B
Although I enjoy a good relationship with my parents, I still possess my deepest reverence for them instead of treating them merely as "friends". I think parents should still maintain discipline while getting along well with their children. Discipline is necessary, especially when children are still young, since they lack the concepts of right and wrong. It is their parents' duty to teach what to do and what not to do. Plus, if parents do not discipline their children, they will have a hard time fitting in the world in their adulthood. After all, there are so many rules for them to follow outside their sweet home.

From my perspective, maintaining a friendship between parents and kids is a wise choice, since in this way, it will be easier to detect the potencial problems in children's growth, and more possible for kids to take parents' advices. More specifically, it is natural that we are more willing to share our ideas with friends, and accept their opinions. And if parents are considered as friends by their kids, they are able to have an accurate understanding of the child's thoughts, turning around the misconception in time. Nevertheless, some might mention that discipline can be more important for parents' education, otherwise kids will encounter difficulties in fitting in the society. However, strict disciplines sometimes will plant the seeds of fear in kids' mind to their parents, which is detrimental for their mental health, and even harder to integrate into the society.

In my opinion, fostering a friendly relationship between parents and children is crucial for healthy development, as it facilitates open communication and allows parents to provide guidance more effectively. By establishing a bond of trust and understanding, children are more inclined to share their thoughts and concerns with their parents, who can then address any misconceptions or issues in a timely manner.
On the other hand, some may argue that discipline is essential in parenting to ensure that children can adapt to societal norms and expectations. While this is true to some extent, excessive strictness may instill fear in children, negatively impacting their mental well-being and hindering their ability to integrate into society. Therefore, striking a balance between friendship and discipline is key to nurturing well-rounded individuals who can thrive both personally and socially. (137 words)
