As we were discussing last week, people are now communicating and engaging in activities with people from different countries a lot more than before. We now have access to so many things from other countries, like English movies, Japanese cuisine and so on. Some people believe that introduction of foreign culture undermines their local culture. I want to hear about your take on this.
Student A
I agree with this statement without any hesitation. From what I have observed, the introduction of foreign culture is causing people’s loss of interest in their own culture, especially among youngsters. They would spend time and money celebrating foreign festivals, but they barely remember the tradition of their own. Therefore, I think this statement sounds true enough.
Student B
I would say it sounds too drastic. It is true that different cultures are blending in with each other right now. But I believe it’s actually a good thing for all. Every country has its merits when it comes to customs and traditions, which can probably be a great asset for other countries to learn from. So, I think we should all welcome the introduction of foreign culture.

While both Will and Nancy have provided some compelling arguments, I am inclined to side with Will's stance in favor of this statement. Firstly, exotic culture can allure people by stimulating their curiosity, which in turn, can lead to the negligence of the original local culture. Take my country as an example, a variety of western festivals like Christmas and Valentine's Day have been gaining popularity, whereas there is a decline in the attention to traditional festivals like the Mid-Autumn festivals or Dragon Boat Festivals. Should it continued, our traditional festivals might fade away in the future. Additionally, the introduction of foreign culture can trigger comparisons. The consequence may be the resentment toward those traditional cultures, as they are not considered to be 'modern'.

3. Task completeness
The essay does a good job of addressing the specific requirements of the task, as it presents a clear viewpoint on the issue and provides relevant examples to support the argument. However, there is room for improvement in terms of elaboration and providing more specific details or examples to strengthen the argument.
Suggestions for improvement:
-
Provide more specific examples or evidence to support your viewpoint.
-
Elaborate further on the consequences of foreign culture introduction, such as its impact on local economies or social dynamics.
Examples:
-
"For instance, many local businesses that sell traditional handicrafts are struggling to compete with foreign products, leading to a decline in their sales and potential loss of cultural heritage."
-
"Moreover, as people become more exposed to foreign cultures, they may develop a preference for those cultures over their own, which could lead to a loss of cultural identity among younger generations."
4. Essay structure and organization
The essay has a clear structure with an introduction, body, and conclusion. However, it could benefit from better organization within paragraphs and clearer transitions between ideas.
Suggestions for improvement:
-
Use topic sentences at the beginning of each paragraph to clearly state the main point.
-
Improve transitions between ideas by using appropriate linking words or phrases.
Examples:
-
"Firstly, one major consequence of introducing foreign cultures is that it can lead people to neglect their own local customs and traditions."
-
"Furthermore, when people compare different cultures, they may develop negative attitudes towards their own culture if they perceive it as less 'modern' or 'advanced' compared to others."

While both Will and Nancy have provided some compelling arguments, I am inclined to side with Will's stance in favor of this statement. Firstly, exotic culture can allure people by stimulating their curiosity, curiosity (revised for clarity: "exotic culture" more accurately describes the concept than "foreign culture"), which in turn, can lead to the negligence of the original local culture. Take my country as an example, a variety of western festivals like Christmas and Valentine's Day have been gaining popularity, popularity (revised for conciseness: "have been gaining popularity" is more concise than "are becoming more and more popular"), whereas there is a decline in the attention to traditional festivals like the Mid-Autumn festivals or Dragon Boat Festivals. Should it continued, continued (revised for grammar: "Should it continue" is grammatically correct), our traditional festivals might fade away in the future. Additionally, the introduction of foreign culture can trigger comparisons. comparisons (revised for clarity: "comparisons" is clearer than "a comparison"). The consequence may be the resentment toward those traditional cultures, as they are not considered to be 'modern'.'modern' (revised for consistency: using single quotes around 'modern' matches the style used earlier in the essay).
