We've been discussing government budgets and the difficult decisions governments must make regarding the use of public funds. Some services are clearly essential and must be paid for by any government. But what about public funding of the arts? Do you believe that governments should provide financial support to artists-for example, painters, sculptors, musicians, or filmmakers? Why or why not?
Student A
I enjoy art as much as anyone does, but public funds come from taxes, and I don't think taxpayers' hard-earned money should be spent on impractical or inessential items and services. Artists should support themselves by selling their work to private individuals and companies. If they can't find enough buyers, then maybe they should change careers.
Student B
Personally, I think art actually is essential. Lots of public spaces in my hometown just wouldn't be the same without artwork. From statues in public parks to murals painted on the walls of government buildings, my hometown really benefits from funding the artists who created these works. The public spaces are simply more enjoyable for visitors because of the artwork.

I think government should definitely sponsor artists. Government funding is one of the most important resources to improve civil life. When considering whether a field should be allocated funding, we must take, not only the immediate effect, but also the potential long-term impact on the citizens into account. Art can cultivate a taste of beauty. With the improvement of living standard, we, as society, should consider more about how to appreciate delicate oil painting, how to listen to a concert, rather than daily basic needs. Artists, whether they are filmmakers or musicians, are able to create works that can add vibrancy to citizens’ everyday experiences. Moreover, such investment can obviously boost artists’ passion. Art relies heavily on capital and resources. But artists often have a tight budget, so they might not be able to create remarkable works unless they can cover their living expenses. Take Van Gogh for example, had government paid enough attention to Van Gogh’s living and illness, he might have created more masterpieces. An additional revenue from authority can greatly solve this problem. Therefore, I believe that government ought to allocate fund to artists.

Section Title: 6 文章修订
Revised Essay: Undoubtedly, governments should provide financial support to artists, as such funding plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of civic life. When determining the allocation of resources, it is imperative to consider not only the immediate effects but also the potential long-term impact on citizens. Art fosters an appreciation for beauty and elevates our cultural experiences. As societal living standards improve, it becomes increasingly important for individuals to develop an understanding of refined artistic expressions, such as oil paintings or classical music concerts, beyond merely addressing basic needs.
Artists across various disciplines, including filmmakers and musicians, contribute significantly to enriching citizens' daily lives through their creative works. Furthermore, government investment can substantially bolster artists' passion and drive. The creation of art often demands substantial capital and resources; however, many artists face financial constraints that may hinder their ability to produce exceptional works. Adequate financial support can alleviate these challenges by covering essential living expenses and allowing artists to focus on their craft. For instance, had the government provided sufficient assistance to Vincent Van Gogh during his lifetime, he might have produced even more masterpieces despite his personal struggles. Consequently, I firmly believe that governments ought to allocate funds towards supporting artists in their endeavors. (211 words)
