Some argue that humans already consume too many goods, from clothing to electronics to food; They believe that overconsumption has brought serious problems to human beings and even the earth. Do you agree that overconsumption -buying more than we really need -has become a serious problem? Why or why not?

I totally agree. We are buying far more than we need, and this cannot goon indefinitely. For many years, people have used shopping as a form of entertainment. Products bought on a whim fill landfills, and the energy consumed to produce them contributes to the global warming crisis. We should start to reduce our consumption gradually.

Although overconsumption is considered as a serious problem by the majority, I believe that it still has some possitive effect. First of all, it promotes the economic development. It is undeniable that consumption drives the economy. For example, China has taken a series of measures boost consumption in the past few years, in order to boost the economy affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Secondly, it fosters the development of technoloy. The more goods people buy, the more the factories have to produce. So when people buy more than they really needs, companies have to lift the effiency of production in order to meet the customers’ need. Companies also have the motivation to devote in inventing because of the large profit. Title: 6 文章修订
While overconsumption is often perceived as a grave issue, I contend that it also yields certain positive outcomes. Firstly, it stimulates economic growth. Undeniably, consumption propels the economy forward. For instance, China has implemented numerous measures to bolster consumption in recent years, aiming to revive an economy impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Secondly, overconsumption encourages technological advancements. As consumer demand for goods increases, factories must elevate their production levels accordingly. Consequently, when individuals purchase more than they genuinely require, companies are compelled to enhance production efficiency to satisfy customer needs. Furthermore, the prospect of substantial profits incentivizes businesses to invest in innovation.
Although overconsumption may contribute to environmental degradation and resource depletion, it is crucial to acknowledge its role in fostering economic and technological progress. By striking a balance between consumption and sustainability, society can reap the benefits of both aspects without compromising future generations' well-being. (149 words)
